Jervis B. Webb Company, a subsidiary of Daifuku Webb Holding Company and a leading provider of material handling solutions, will host its second annual FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) LEGO League Scrimmage on Saturday, November 1 at the company’s demonstration facility in Wixom, Mich.

FIRST LEGO League introduces young people, ages 9 to 14 (grades 4-8), to the fun and excitement of science and technology. In FLL, the children do all of the work, like program an autonomous robot to score points on a thematic playing surface and create innovative solutions to a problem, all while being guided by the FLL Core Values. These three elements - the Robot Game, Project, and FLL Core Values - make up the yearly Challenge. Teams also fundraise, create a team identity, and talk to experts in the field.

“We are happy to host an event that inspires young people to pursue their dreams of designing and creating while learning to work through challenges with their peers in a team atmosphere” said Rob Schmit, president of Jervis B. Webb Company. “We will also show the students what our company engineers and manufactures, including a detailed overview of our SmartCart Automatic Guided Carts. We want to show the connection that what they are doing now is preparing them to do amazing things for the future.”

Six teams with approximately eight participants will participate in the scrimmage with an additional 70 spectators and coaches in attendance. The participants will be coached by Jervis B. Webb Company employees. Following the scrimmage, Jervis B. Webb Company engineers will showcase the company’s automated equipment through live demonstrations.
