Lift trucks: Sport equipment seller cuts costs with new lift truck

Flexible service plan tailored to application calling for intermittent use.

Elk Grove Power Sports, with headquarters near Sacramento in Elk Grove, Calif., sells new and used scooters, motorcycles, ATVs, boat trailers and watercraft. Burdened by the excessive repair costs and unreliability of their previous lift truck, the company increased uptime with a new lift truck geared to its specific application.

“We were very much hit and miss with the reliability of our last forklift and when the forklift does not work, our operation basically stops,” explains Scott Spanner, president of Elk Grove Power Sports. “It is very important for us to have a forklift that continually runs with little maintenance.”

One of the truck’s primary tasks is unloading valuable equipment and merchandise, so a side-shift option was ideal for unloading trailers. The program is also configured for trucks required to only work for limited periods in the work week. Customers can choose whether to service the trucks themselves or contact a technician.

“In the end, it pays off for us to have gone with the new truck,” Spanner says. “In fact, the expense of our older forklift sometimes exceeded the monthly payment of a new forklift.”
