LTL news: FedEx Freight opens up new locations in Mexico

FedEx Freight, the less-than-truckload (LTL) subsidiary of FedEx, said this week it opened three new markets in Mexico on August 1, rolling out service centers in Toluca, Puebla, and Veracruz.

Company officials said that through these new service centers, FedEx Freight has reduced transit times by an average of 50 percent for its customers shipping in the southeast region of Mexico, as well as offering customers the option of extended pick-up times in the new locations and Villahermosa, Mexico.

A company spokesman told LM that FedEx Freight customers will benefit from improved transit times as a way to better serve their own customers in these regions.

FedEx Freight provides service coverage throughout all of Mexico and has a network of 15 Mexico-based service centers. The company provides LTL service in Mexico through an alliance with Auto Lineas America, a provider of domestic and international regular cargo services, specifically for customers in Mexico, USA, and Canada.

FedEx Freight previously served the Toluca and Puebla locations directly from its Mexico City service center, which was a two-day service standard, according to the spokesman. In addition, customers in those markets previously needed to request a shipment pick-up with one day’s notice, and can now request a pick-up that will take place the same day. In Veracruz, he said, FedEx Freight has improved transit times by two days to this location through the new service center.

“Customers in these areas now benefit from extended pick-up times and reduced transit times by an average of 50 percent, meaning their shipments to and from these areas are faster,” said the spokesman. “Combined with the reliability and technology for which FedEx is known, customers also will see an improvement in their supply chains, due to the improved service.”

FedEx Freight recently unveiled a 6.75 percent GRI bump, effective September 6.
