Pregis acquires Surface Guard

Adds protective film, cohesive material, single-face corrugated to product portfolio

Pregis Corporation, a leading supplier of protective packaging solutions, has acquired Surface Guard, Aurora, Ill., for an undisclosed amount. The acquisition will add new protective film, cohesive material and single-face corrugated manufacturing capability to Pregis’ product portfolio.

“Pregis has partnered with Surface Guard on customer projects for a number of years. Our collaborative relationship already has proven that our product technologies, go-to-market strategies and core values are well aligned. The acquisition takes the relationship one step further. We believe that by operating as a unified company, we create a competitive advantage and greater value for our customers,” said Kevin Baudhuin, president and chief executive officer of Pregis.

Pregis will continue to operate Surface Guard’s two Aurora facilities. Its 79 employees will be joining Pregis’ 2,000-member worldwide team. Surface Guard founders James Heimann, Patrick Dillon and Steve Malinowski also will be joining Pregis.

“Over the past few years, Pregis has completed several protective packaging acquisitions. Our objective is to strengthen our competitive position, expand our product portfolio and infuse new research and development, as well as sales expertise into our organization. We believe that this acquisition will benefit our mutual customers across all segments and channels,” said Baudhuin.

The new, combined product portfolio will bring even more protective packaging solutions to target markets including automotive, fulfillment, building products, appliances, furniture, pharmaceuticals and aerospace. The company also expects to address high-end retail and consumer packaging requirements via custom-designed, single-face corrugated packaging solutions.

“Surface Guard was founded 15 years ago with the goal of providing the highest quality products backed by great customer service. We look forward to combining our product line and expertise with Pregis’ extensive offering to create an even higher level of innovation while creating growth opportunities for our customers and employees,” said Heimann.
