Spacesaver Industrial rolled out its new space-saving storage system at ProMat 2011. Literally. At a product demonstration held Wednesday in the company Booth 3098, Ken Bowman, Spacesaver industrial VP, and Bryan Knott, director of marketing, showcased the features and benefits of the new ActivRAC mobilized storage system.
With this storage solution, otherwise stationary (or fixed) rows of pallet racking are mounted on carriages and mobilized. The carriages, which can be equipped with shelving and cabinets, travel on wheels mated to a rail system. By moving side to side, the system is able to eliminate aisles and compress the stored material into a much smaller footprint while providing 100% access to product in the system when needed.
“There are many strategies and solutions for managing fast-moving materials, which make up the largest percentage of items at most manufacturing and distribution operations,” Bowman said. “The ActivRAC storage system is ideal for those operations looking to eliminate wasted space and improve operations by looking beyond automated and engineered systems alone.”
While the system moves product-filled racking side to side, the racking is strategically connected at various points to enable safe movement over floor surfaces that are flat, but not necessarily even. The rack is also equipped with safety sensors at key locations to prevent accidents.
But moving rows of product must take a lot of energy, right? Wrong. A single one-quarter horsepower motor can move up to 8 tons, making it an energy-efficient solution.
ProMat 2011 will be held March 21 - 24, 2011 at McCormick Place South in Chicago. The tradeshow will showcase the latest manufacturing, distribution and supply chain solutions in the material handling and logistics industry.
