Storage/Staging: Fabric structures protect equipment, wallet

The city of Marshalltown, Iowa, needed an alternative solution for the city’s equipment storage needs. The city was renting multiple buildings in the area, so equipment was hard to locate throughout the city and was very difficult to manage. After installing two fabric structures, the city improved storage capacity and organization while cutting costs.

The city wanted a building that would serve as a centralized location to keep all of its equipment together and also provide a more cost-effective solution for their needs. The city researched and proposed various types of buildings to be approved for the project. After considering traditional wood and steel structures, it was clear that a fabric structure was the best option.

“The city needed an economical building that would also provide the large amount of space required,” says Martin Miille of Story Construction, which the city hired to find alternatives to its previous storage network. “The new truss arch buildings offer high clearances that make them ideal solution for this application; the extended headroom allows big equipment to move materials inside the buildings or simply be stored there.”
