In many ways, the January edition of the Cass Freight Index report released by Cass Information Systems earlier today was much like the one issued by Cass for December in that freight transportation market conditions were relatively flat and possibly heading downward.

The schedule will be comprised of Monday-Saturday package delivery and Monday-Friday mail delivery, which the USPS said would result in roughly $2 billion in annual savings. This plan also factors in employee reassignment and attrition, said the USPS.

In its monthly Non-Manufacturing Report on Business, the ISM reported that the index it uses to measure non-manufacturing growth—known as the NMI—was 55.2 in January, down 0.5 percent from December and above the 12-month average of 54.5.

Class I railroad carrier Canadian Pacific (CP) said this week that Keith Creel has been named president and COO, effective today. Creel joins CP from Canadian National Railway Company (CN), where he served as vice president and chief operating officer.
