Education champion Allan Howie to retire from MHIA

Ray Niemeyer has been appointed MHIA's Educational Services Director and will assume Allan's former role in the TCEP and Fundamentals of Warehousing programs.

MHIA has announced the retirement of Allan Howie, Director of Continuing Education and Professional Development of MHIA and champion of MHIA’s TCEP initiative. Howie’s career spans over 30 years in the material handling equipment industry with the past twelve in association with MHIA. He has worked tirelessly with public schools, community colleges, governmental agencies and charitable institutions to educate individuals seeking to enter the warehousing, distribution, supply chain and logistics industry at the entry level.

To this goal, Allan authored Fundamentals of Warehousing and Distribution, Volume 1: An Introductory Course in Material Handling, which has been called the most relevant instructional text for the entry level student available today. Allan was also responsible for the development of Fundamentals of Warehousing & Distribution, Volume 2: Warehouse Operations.

“Allan’s 30 years of service to the industry and his 12 years of service to MHIA have been marked by his devotion and commitment to the education and training of entry level students in the area of material handling, supply chain and logistics,” says MHIA CEO George W. Prest. “Without Allan’s tireless commitment to the development of the Technical Career Education Program, there simply would not be one. Thanks to Allan for generations to come there will be opportunities for young people and the industry that will be in alignment.”

Ray Niemeyer has been appointed MHIA’s Educational Services Director and will assume Allan’s former role in the TCEP and Fundamentals of Warehousing programs. “Ray has 20 years experience in material handling including seven with MHIA. His experience will be an added benefit in taking the TCEP initiative to the next level,” says Prest.

Any educational institution or military installation interested in starting or using this program can contact Ray Niemeyer at MHIA at 800-345-1815/704-676-1190 or visit http://www.mhia.org/tcep.
