WERC’s Focus on Seaports Gains Fresh Perspective

Paul Rasmussen, U.S. trade expert and CEO of Zepol, will be joining a panel of experts examining U.S. port infrastructure at the upcoming Warehousing Education and Research Council (WERC) annual conference in Chicago April 27 – 30, 2014.

“U.S. Port Update: Investing in the Future” will feature a panel of three industry leaders from the East Coast, Gulf, and West Coast discussing their relative challenges and opportunities.

The current line-up includes:

* Tim Van Wormer, Marine Planning and Development Manager for the Port of Portland
*Russell Held, Director of Economic Development, The Port of Virginia

Logistics Management’s executive editor, Patrick Burnson, moderates the hour-long session, and will follow up with a post-conference report.

Transportation and logistics merger and acquisition (M&A) activity in the third quarter saw annual gains, which were driven by smaller deals in the trucking logistics, shipping, and passenger air sectors, according to data issued in the Intersections report by PwC this week.

Seasonally-adjusted (SA) for-hire truck tonnage in September checked in at 132.6 (2000=100) for the second straight month, remaining as the current all-time high level for the second month in a row, with November 2013’s 131.0 now the second best month recorded.
