As our contributing editor John Schulz continues to report, the nation’s top truckload (TL) carriers should be able to squeeze one more solid year out of the nation’s longest economic expansion.
The good news for TL shippers midway through 2019 is that capacity seems to be adequate for the volumes predicted for the rest of this year. In fact, there may even be some rare bargain rates beginning to appear for TL shippers as we get closer to peak season.
But no matter who seems to have the bargaining power in this vital freight transportation mode, the readers of Logistics Management tell us that the 29 carriers taking home Quest for Quality gold in 2019 have been equal to the task in terms of overall service.
In fact, for all of the operational challenges that weigh on TL carriers, the overall weighted scores in each category were quite impressive this year. Ace Transportation’s 54.86 gave it top billing in the Bulk Motor his year, while North American Van Lines put up a 51.19 to lead the way in Household Goods.
In Dry Freight, Greatwide Logistics tallied a 49.33, while Roehl Transport racked up a 50.60 in Industrial & Heavy-Haul to lead the way in that category. Schneider Expedited Services rounded out the top scores with a 49.77 in this year’s Expedited category.
